Are You Glorifying God?

And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron [was]. So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, [but it] was He who said to Him: "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You." (Hebrews 5:4-5 NKJV)

To glorify someone means to give him a position of honor. It means to elevate that person above you. Christ is our perfect example in this. He did not elevate Himself, but elevated the Father by submitting to the Father.

One can glorify God in three ways: First, with an attitude of submission; second, with a spirit of unity; and third with his life’s work.

Christ glorified God by submitting to the Father’s will. He could have called on ten thousand angles, as the song says, but remained on the cross to become our Savior. He gave His life willingly to propitiate the Father. Are you willing to suffer the injustices of evil men waiting for God to avenge? He did say love your enemy, and bless those who persecute you (Matt 5:44).

You may also glorify God by having a spirit of unity. Christ prayed that we would all be one in love.

I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, [are] in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. (John 17:20-23 NKJV)

God may also, be glorified with your life’s work. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (John 15:8 NKJV) Men glorified God repeatedly for the works that were wrought in His name.

So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way of punishing them, because of the people, since they all glorified God for what had been done. (Acts 4:21 NKJV)

When they heard these things, they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life." (Acts 11:18 NKJV)

Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. (Acts 13:48 NKJV)

You are an expression of God in this world. It’s important for you to glorify God. It is your calling no matter what you do for a living. As the Scriptures say: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 NKJV) Amen.
