Be Filled with the Spirit
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” (Colossians 3:16 NKJV)
“And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,” (Ephesians 5:18-19 NKJV)
When you look at these two verses together, you can conclude that being filled with the Spirit is the same as being filled with God’s Word. If you are led by the Spirit then you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those [who live] according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded [is] death, but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace.” (Romans 8:5-6 NKJV)
There are no shortcuts to spiritual maturity. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Rom. 10:17). Many seek God in a sensual fashion hoping to find just the right experience that will squelch all their fears. However, He will not be found through carnal experiences. He must be worshiped in Spirit and truth (John 4:24).
If you want to mature in Christ, then you must apply yourself to the meditation of God’s Word. Look at what the author of Hebrews says to the spiritually immature. “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need [someone] to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes [only] of milk [is] unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, [that is], those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” (Hebrews 5:12-14 NKJV)
My dear friends please seek to study and apply God’s Word to your life. This is the way to spiritual maturity not seeking after signs. Feelings are fleeting, but the Word of God endures forever.
“. . . All flesh [is] as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the LORD endures forever." Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you. Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord [is] gracious.” (1 Peter 1:24-2:3 NKJV)[Emphasis Added]
May the Lord bless you today as you worship Him.
