God’s Gracious Rebuilding
“And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, "For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed." And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then [men] began to call on the name of the LORD.” (Genesis 4:25-26 NKJV)
How awful for Adam and Eve to see the high cost of their sin in the loss of their two children, Cain by apostasy an Able at his brother’s hand. How their hearts must have ached. Surely, most parents would come near to death with such grief. However, Adam and Eve knew better than anyone else the connection between their own sins and the loss of their children which compounded their misery.
Oh, but our Lord is so gracious and faithful. He provided another seed in Seth who in time had another son named Enosh. Then the next words fall from heaven like a spring rain giving new life. “Then men began to call on the name of the LORD” How marvelous are those words.
God provided another seed to replace Able who was taken. No matter what the devil and sin might dole out, the Sovereign God of the universe will always keep His word. There is no variation or shadow of turning in Him (James 1:17). God promised a seed, and God would provide a seed.
Maybe you have experienced a great spiritual loss. Be of good courage because God is a rebuilder and over-comer. Has your sin cost you more than you think you can bear? If so, you are in a position to receive God’s grace through repentance. “[The righteous] cry out, and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD [is] near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Many [are] the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. He guards all his bones; Not one of them is broken. Evil shall slay the wicked, And those who hate the righteous shall be condemned. The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.” (Psalms 34:17-22 NKJV)
God can deliver you through the darkest valley if you will only allow Him. He always keeps His word. Cast off all your pride and cling to Him. Remember, He saves such as have a contrite spirit.
