Noticing God’s Accomplishments

Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. Nevertheless, brethren, I have written more boldly to you on [some] points, as reminding you, because of the grace given to me by God, that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:14-16 NKJV)

Paul takes the time here to recognize the work of God among the Romans. He says they are full of goodness and filled with knowledge able to admonish one another. God accomplished this work partially through the ministry of Paul.

I say partially because the Holy Spirit accomplishes all spiritual work, and because Paul is careful to point out that his ministry was one that reminded the Romans of what they had previously heard.

Paul is excusing himself a little because he had spoken so directly to them. However, he points out that he was called to do so as he was a minister to the Gentiles.

It is good at times to reflect on the work of God. I hope that you are not the same Christian you were when God called you. We all need to be growing in grace.

Nevertheless, growth seems to take a long time. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The oak tree takes a long time to mature, but unlike the fast growing poplar, its strength is considerable. It would be like God to grow oak trees.

We all need encouragement so take the time to reflect on what God has done in your life and in the life of others. Thank Him for His grace and encourage others likewise. Amen.
