Be Faithful
“Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth. [As a] loving deer and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and always be enraptured with her love.” (Proverbs 5:18-19 NKJV)
Men and women alike are constantly bombarded with images of unfaithfulness. The television constantly glamorizes and or at least legitimizes fornication and adultery. The impact of this wickedness is profound.
The following information was taken from a chart on www.divorcerate.org I am not sure how accurate it is, but if it is anywhere close to accurate the figures are alarming.
According to enrichment journal on the divorce rate in America:
The divorce rate in America for first marriage is 41%
The divorce rate in America for second marriage is 60%
The divorce rate in America for third marriage is 73%
The question is, “What starts a marriage down the road to divorce?” Clearly our promiscuous society provides ample temptations. However, this is only the vehicle that carries one to divorce. The real root is a lack of love and that not of one’s spouse but of God.
Jesus said, “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me” (John 14:21 NKJV). Loving God means to obey God. Don’t be fooled, divorce and every sin is selfishness. Some will take an exception to calling divorce sin. There are arguments that say not all divorce is sinful—abandonment and so forth. This is not the point here. Here the scope is selfish lusts controlling one’s actions.
Therefore, anyone contemplating adultery or fornication should wake up and realize they have already committed spiritual adultery by becoming a friend of the world (James 4:4). Stop now and evaluate your spiritual condition. Do not throw your life away. Look at how the proverb speaks of the consequences of such foolishness:
“Remove your way far from her, And do not go near the door of her house, Lest you give your honor to others, And your years to the cruel [one]; Lest aliens be filled with your wealth, And your labors [go] to the house of a foreigner; And you mourn at last, When your flesh and your body are consumed, And say: "How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised correction! I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me! I was on the verge of total ruin, In the midst of the assembly and congregation.” (Proverbs 5:8-14 NKJV)
Dear child of God, there is no temptation overtaken you but what is common to man. God has promised to make a way of escape for you (1 Cor. 10:13). The question is, “Do you love Him or yourself more?” Really this is a bit of a misnomer. For if you truly loved yourself you would not hurl yourself down this path of destruction. Maybe it would be better to ask, “Do you love God or your lust?” Know this, the one who goes this way sins against his own body (1 Cor. 6:18). The price will be too high for you to bear.
Therefore, if there has even been a thought of unfaithfulness in you, stop what you are doing right now and seek repentance immediately. Do not wait a moment. David’s lingering at the sight of Bathsheba led him to adultery and murder. Don’t make the same mistake!
