Christ Died for the Ungodly

“For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” (Romans 5:6-10 NKJV)

Here is a great demonstration of God’s love. Christ died for the ungodly. Paul acknowledges that someone might die for a righteous man, but no one would die for the ungodly without having a great love for him.

Love us He did. I cannot fully understand this great love. As I search the depths of His grace, I find no comparisons. I love my wife yet I fail to treat her as she deserves. I love my son yet I fail to be for him what I should. This is not how God loves me. He never fails me or treats me with contempt. He is perfectly good and kind. He is longsuffering and consistent. He gives to me whatever I need to honor Him.

True there are days when He must chastise me. This He does out of love, also. There is no shadow of turning in Him. I sometimes fail to correct my son in a loving manner, but my Father never does. He is altogether wonderful.

Now as the day approaches fear flees as perfect love cast out fear. The logic is perfect for if saved while an enemy of God, surely we shall live as He lives.

Lord, teach us to live in this great love. Give us patience to treat others, as You treat us. Give us the grace to sacrifice for others that you might be glorified. Remember, we are but dust, frail and with no hope without You. Amen.
