Declaring the Glory of God

Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvelous works among all nations (1 Chronicles 16:24).

Declare is all we can do seeing we can add nothing to His glory. God is glorious whether we acknowledge that glory or not.

However, we must declare the glory of God. We must, I say not in the sense of a command, although we are commanded to glorify God (1 Corinthians 6:20); but because the heart cannot restrain our contemplations of His majesty.

Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all (1 Chronicles 29:11).

Beloved, there is nothing more improving to the soul than to meditate upon the Godhead. In the study of God, you will find yourself bowing low as the intricacies of God’s attributes are revealed to your heart and mind. You will find yourself having moments, as Paul did, where you erupt with adoration and praise.

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable [are] His judgments, and His ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been His counselor? Or who hath first given to Him, and it shall be recompensed unto Him again? For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, [are] all things: to whom [be] glory forever. Amen (Romans 11:33-36 AV).

Therefore, our meditations become our motivation. As we recognize that we cannot improve upon the glory of God, we also understand the need to glorify God in our lives. God forbid that we would become a distraction to keep others from seeing His glory. Rather, our proper understanding of God should become an infectious condition for others.

Notice the holy writ, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16 NKJV).

This is the only logical course for believers. Jesus tells us this immediately before He commands us to shine.

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all [who are] in the house (Matthew 5:14-15 NKJV).

Jesus said this to us because He knew the fire in our soul must be continually stoked. If we, for sloth’s sake or unbelief, fail to bring ourselves to regular meditations a hard callous will form around our hearts. The end of this is not pretty. As He says, You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men (Matthew 5:13 NKJV).

So, let us contemplate the Godhead. Let us come to see the Lord high and lifted up. When we do, we will not be able to contain our thoughts. They will gush forth from us like a spring rising out of the ground. Not threat, nor time, nor any other thing will constrain us, and the world will see the glory of God in our lives.

O’ God, let it be so. Fill us with your Spirit today and every day. Stir us with reviving power as in times past. Pour out a blessing on us as we study your Devine Person. We need you Lord; please come quickly. Amen.
