Glorifying God
I have set the LORD always before me: because [he is] at my right hand, I shall not be moved (Psalms 16:8 AV).
Here is one secret to piety. Living with the understanding that God is always on duty, His eye is always upon the believer. When we live this way, we glorify God and chart our course carefully.
The end of this is great joy and peace. As it is written, Therefore, my heart is glad and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope (Psalms 16:9 AV).
What keeps us from this sacred duty? When the angels in heaven are engaged in an endless antiphony of praise, shall we neglect the glory of God? See how they praise Him. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, [is] the LORD of hosts: the whole earth [is] full of his glory (Isaiah 6:3 AV).
We make our faith too much about us. Truly, His grace is a reason to give Him glory, but too often, we live as if we are the most important person in the universe. This we do to our own detriment. As we have seen above, when the Lord is kept before us, then we will have a glad heart.
Beloved, learn to live for the glory of God. Let us seek His glory as Moses did: I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. (Exodus 33:18b AV). And what was the Divine response? I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. (Exodus 33:19b AV)
My dear friends, God knows you have needs; but the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us (Romans 8:18b AV). Therefore, let us turn our eyes upon Jesus, and gaze upon Him for Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing (Revelation 5:12b).
O’ my great God and King, we are ever dependent upon you. What would we be if it were not for you, but kindling for hell’s furnace. You have taken our sins and washed them white as snow. Blindly we walked in darkness tempting your fierce wrath, but love quickened our hearts, and out of the bondage of corruption, you led us. Please forgive our weaknesses and give us your grace that we might always behold you before us. Amen.
