It Is Enough

“For the perverse [person is] an abomination to the LORD, But His secret counsel [is] with the upright.” (Proverbs 3:32 NKJV)

It is said of the perverse that he is an abomination. “The secret of the LORD [is] with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.” (Psalms 25:14 NKJV)

“At that time Jesus answered and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from [the] wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.” (Matthew 11:25 NKJV)

To know God is enough. One only needs to contemplate for a moment to understand knowing God is enough in this world. Many distractions call us from our time of sweet communion with God. Jobs, family needs, house repairs, broken cars, and a hundred other things beckon with such veracity that they rob us of that which is most needed.

To have ears to hear with is a blessing beyond measure. Relatively very few people truly know the Lord “Because narrow [is] the gate and difficult [is] the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:14 NKJV). Those elected from the foundation of the world have been given a precious pearl and a treasure of great value. Why would anyone in their right mind throw such a blessing away?

Of course no one in his right mind would throw it away. However, the deceitfulness of sin has beguiled even the strongest faith at times. When the world cries for attention, the mature believer learns to so no!

That does not mean quit your job and sit on a mountain somewhere. However, don’t allow your job to steal time from the Lord. If it comes between giving your soul time to commune with the Father and making an extra few dollars, choose the Father. In the end He will pay much greater dividends.

Maybe the job demands are such that you have no choice but to work long hours. If this is your case, then steal from your sleep or leisure for the manna that comes from heaven is by far more refreshing.

Do you remember what Jesus said?  “. . .  Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, ‘Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.’ And Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her’” (Luke 10:40-42 NKJV).

Whatever you must do, find time to be with your God. He has revealed His secret counsel to His children. It is enough: to know Him and commune with Him.

Every one of us is, even from his mother's womb, a master craftsman of idols. (John Calvin)
