Trust Him
“Philip said to Him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip . . . ?’” (Joh 14:8-9a NKJV)
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater [works] than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do [it].” (Joh 14:12-14 NKJV)
Jesus was perplexed, humanly speaking, that Philip would ask to see the Father. How could he not recognize the One before him? He had seen him serve, perform miracles, and walk in perfect righteousness. When Philip should have been ready to do great works, he was still questioning the Messiah’s identity.
We are like Philip at times are we not? I have been a Christian for twenty years, and still fail to take hold of my blessed position at times. The Scripture says that he who believes in Jesus will do His works, even greater works than Jesus. If we ask anything in His name, He will do it!
Wow, that sounds like a really dynamic life. Is your life full of greater works than those Jesus did? Obviously he is not talking about greater works of power, but works with a greater impact. Jesus did have a profound influence on the region, but the apostles turned the world upside down (Acts 17.6).
How does one accomplish great things? : Through Christ. Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Php 4.13). It was also said, “without Me you can do nothing” (Joh 15.5).
As you consider the impossible today, will you also consider Jesus. Don’t get mystical just get real. The only mountain we need to move today is the mountain of self preservation. Die to yourself and see what God can do.
