Why Glorify God
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he [is] God: [it is] he [that] hath made us, and not we ourselves; [we are] his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, [and] into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, [and] bless his name. For the LORD [is] good; his mercy [is] everlasting; and his truth [endureth] to all generations (Psalms 100:1-5 AV).
Psalms 100 gives us the best reason to glorify God. It is He who made us; we are His people, His sheep. We belong to the Lord.
There is nothing quite as ugly as rebellion. Sin causes separation. When Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, God walk among them, His presence was known [probably some manifestation of His shekinah glory], and He spoke directly with them. What a wonderful place to be: walking and talking with God!
Unfortunately, they rebelled against God, and God in mercy removed them from the garden so they would not be able to eat from the tree of life, which had they eaten of it, they would have been sealed in their depraved state forever. There, at the entrance of the garden, God placed cherubim and a flaming sword to ensure they could not return (Genesis 3:24).
Will you look at this separation! At least two of God’s most powerful creatures [cherubim is plural], and a flaming sword separated man from life and communion with the Father. This was the Divine response to man’s rebellion, and God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
However, God has made a way back into His presence through the blood of His dear Son, Jesus Christ the Righteous. If you know Him, glorify Him with your obedience, devotion, and thankfulness.
Enter His courts with thanksgiving and bless His name. He deserves our praise, our adoration, and our love.
You would not cast off your earthly parents, or treat them as strangers. Yet will you ignore your Creator? Let it not be so! If your heart is calloused, and it’s been long since you last entered into His presence; cry out for mercy and don’t stop until He answers. Seek Him while He may be found (Isaiah 55:6-7).
Gracious Heavenly Father, Ruler of all creation, grant that our eyes may see and our ears hear, and that our hearts be humble. Come to the weary and heavy laden. Fill them with a since of your presence, and comfort them dear Lord. Lift our countenance as we praise you and adore you. Make our path straight that we might see you. Amen.
