The Father To Whom You Pray

Is Bountiful

“ . . . The earth [is] the LORD’S, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein” (Psalms 24:1 NKJV).

“For every beast of the forest [is] Mine, [And] the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field [are] Mine. "If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world [is] Mine, and all its fullness” (Psalms 50:10-12 NKJV).

Have you ever heard people talk about what they would do if they won the lottery? They say they would do things like buy a new car, pay off the house, quit their job, and the like. It’s my understanding most people who win lotteries go broke shortly after getting their check. Overwhelmed with their new buying power, they spend wildly until it is gone.

I think most people understand how this would be a temptation, but can you imagine winning a lottery and not buying anything. By the way, I don’t recommend playing the lottery because the Scriptures warn us not to have an eye for riches (Proverbs 11:28, 13:7, 28:22). Hypothetically, though, if it were you who won, you probably couldn’t wait to spend some of that money.

So, why do Christians not run to the throne to receive from their bountiful Father? I can think of only a couple of reasons. Either they don’t believe God is bountiful or they don’t believe He is generous. They simply don’t believe.

Now don’t misunderstand God is not wanting to make all His children rich in worldly possessions. I think that is the farthest thing from His mind. However, He is anxious to pour out spiritual blessings to His children, and sometimes He does that by supplying us our needs.

However, to receive those blessings we must come to Him in faith because “. . .  without faith [it is] impossible to please [Him], for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and [that] He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6 NKJV). You must believe that He is; He is who He says He is, and that He is willing to reward your faith. Remember, we have not because we ask not, or we ask with greed (James 4:2-3)

Is seems many believers are willing to live lackluster lives, faithless lives as close to the edge of hell as they dare. Oh, what foolishness, what lack of joy, what a senseless waste of grace this is! Our God who owns everything, and is willing to pour out spiritual blessings is only a bent knee away.

Will you forsake comfort, heath, and family to earn the world’s mammon and not be willing to come humbly to the bountiful Father? Surely, those who forsake such a great opportunity lack wisdom.

Beloved, cast off the shackles of unbelief and make time to pray. “There shall be no foreign god among you; Nor shall you worship any foreign god. I [am] the LORD your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.” (Psalms 81:9-10 NKJV)

Do not be stubborn, like Israel, lest God give you over to your own counsel. “Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.” (Isaiah 55:6-7 NKJV)
